Coastal concrete has its own set of problems. Salt air carries in off the water and works into open pores in the slab. The marine layer keeps a surface damp long after an inland one would have dried, so patios and pool decks hold a slick film and driveways stay dark for days.
Add sand tracked up from the beach and you have an abrasive working the surface every time someone walks across it. Newport driveways are often short and tight, shared with a boat or a second car, which concentrates all that wear into a small area. Terraces and pool decks take chemicals on top of the salt. Once the top layer chalks and starts letting go, a slab takes more prep than one caught early.
A coating doesn't replace your concrete. It bonds into the slab you already own and gives it a surface that can be cleaned instead of one that absorbs.
Concrete doesn't have to stay hidden under carpet. Once the old flooring is up, the slab underneath becomes the finished floor — seamless, quick to sweep, with no grout lines or seams for dirt to settle into.

The first floor that meets wet shoes, dog paws, and sand out of the car. A coated slab wipes clean instead of holding grit in grout lines, and there is no threshold strip to catch a toe.
Water resistant underfoot, so a tipped detergent bottle or a leaking washer is a wipe rather than a stain in the subfloor. Solid color is the usual pick, and it brightens a room that rarely has a window.

High traffic, and where flooring transitions tend to look worst. A single coated run takes the joins out altogether, so there is nothing to lift, catch, or wear through down the middle.
Where metallic epoxy earns its keep. Pigment moves through the resin as it cures, so the pattern settles on site and the floor becomes the feature of the room. In a home gym it gives you a hard, level surface that cleans down in minutes.
Converted and below-grade rooms are where moisture rises through the slab. A moisture barrier primer goes down first where it is needed, so the finish is not fighting the concrete underneath it.

One even color, no movement, no pattern. It suits laundry rooms, pantries, mud rooms, and hallways where you want the concrete bright and clean rather than decorative. Low maintenance: sweep and mop, no waxing and no resealing. It is also the most straightforward of the three to install.
Our main floor system, and the one that goes outside. Color flake is broadcast into the wet epoxy, then locked under a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. The texture gives grip when the surface is wet and hides dust and tire marks between cleans. Pick your blend from the color chart, or we will bring samples out with the estimate.

We diamond grind every surface before anything goes down, which opens the concrete so the coating bonds into it rather than sitting on top. Cracks are ground out and filled. Oil is drawn out of the slab. Spalled edges are rebuilt. Where moisture is rising through the concrete, a moisture barrier primer goes down first. We don't acid etch, and we don't coat over a slab we haven't opened up.

That is what the polyaspartic topcoat is for. It is UV stable, so it resists fading and yellowing where a bare epoxy coating would amber over time. On a coastal slab the bigger question is usually moisture rather than sun. We check what is coming up through the concrete and put a moisture barrier primer down first where it is needed. It is also the reason we keep metallic epoxy indoors and put flake outside.
