Polyaspartic is a fast-curing, UV-stable coating, and in our systems it is the topcoat: the layer you walk and drive on. Underneath it sits an epoxy base coat, ground into the concrete, which carries the color, the flake or the metallic pattern. The polyaspartic seals all of that in and takes the wear.
The reason for the split is that each material is good at a different job. Epoxy bonds deep into a properly ground slab and builds a thick, level base. What it does not handle well is sunlight and heat: plain epoxy yellows under UV, and it can soften enough under hot tires to lift. A polyaspartic topcoat does neither, which is why it goes on top.
It is also why two floors that both get called epoxy can behave very differently in a Southern California garage. The topcoat is what decides whether the finish is still clear, still glossy and still bonded after a few summers of hot tires and afternoon sun.
A garage floor here sees summer heat, direct sun through an open door, and cars parked straight off the freeway. A topcoat has to cope with all three, every day, for years, and it is only ever as well stuck down as the epoxy base and the grinding underneath it.
With that prep done properly, these are the four things polyaspartic does that a plain epoxy topcoat does not.

The same topcoat goes on almost everything we coat. What changes from floor to floor is the system underneath it and the texture on top.
Our main system: an epoxy base with color flake broadcast into it, sealed under the polyaspartic topcoat. Hot-tire resistance matters most here, and it is where a kit floor with no real topcoat usually fails first.
Full sun and vehicle weight, often on a slope. UV stability keeps the color from fading or ambering, and a textured topcoat keeps a wet grade walkable.
Bare feet, splash-out and summer heat. We finish these with texture in the topcoat for grip when wet, and the polyaspartic holds its color in open sun.
Kitchens, hallways, laundry rooms and living spaces, usually over metallic or solid color epoxy. Indoors the topcoat is doing abrasion and cleanability work rather than fighting UV, and the fast cure means the room is back in use quickly.
An epoxy base and a high-strength polyaspartic topcoat in high-gloss or matte, over a seamless floor with no grout lines for dirt to settle into. A fast return to service matters most when the floor is a business.
Heavy traffic, pallet jacks and forklifts. The same UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat finishes our forklift-rated industrial systems, specified for the load and the traffic the floor actually carries.
Three systems cover almost every home we coat. Flake goes outside, metallic goes inside, and solid color works in either when you want the floor to stay quiet. All three are epoxy and polyaspartic systems, all three go down over ground and prepared concrete, and all three carry the same 10-year warranty. One even color, no movement, no pattern. It suits laundry rooms, pantries, mud rooms, and hallways where you want the concrete bright and clean rather than decorative. Low maintenance: sweep and mop, no waxing and no resealing. It is also the most straightforward of the three to install.
Our main floor system, and the one that goes outside. Color flake is broadcast into the wet epoxy, then locked under a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. The texture gives grip when the surface is wet and hides dust and tire marks between cleans. Pick your blend from the color chart, or we will bring samples out with the estimate.

Our interior finish. Pigment moves through the resin as it cures, so the pattern is settled on site and no two floors finish alike. It suits living rooms, entryways, kitchens, and home gyms. Metallic colors are worth seeing in person before you choose, and we can bring them to the estimate.
A polyaspartic topcoat is the toughest layer in the floor, but it can only hold on as well as the layers under it.
We diamond grind every surface before anything goes down, which opens the concrete so the epoxy base bonds into it rather than sitting on top. Cracks are chased out and filled, spalled edges are rebuilt, control joints are honored, and where moisture is rising through the slab a moisture barrier primer goes down first. Only then does the base coat go on, and the polyaspartic over it.
Skip that and the best topcoat available still fails, because it peels away with whatever is underneath it. A failed coating rarely fails at the topcoat. It lets go at a bond line that was never properly prepared, and takes the topcoat with it.

Yes. UV stability is one of its main advantages over plain epoxy. Driveways, patios, pool decks and walkways all get it, finished with texture in the topcoat so they have grip when wet.
The topcoat itself resists hot tire pickup. When a coated garage floor does lift under tires, the cause is almost always underneath: a coating rolled onto an unground slab, or a kit with no real topcoat at all. That is why prep, not the product name, is the first thing to ask any installer about.
