Driveways, patios, pool decks, porches and walkways take the worst of it here, and Corona sits right where the Santa Ana Canyon opens into the valley. Sierra Del Oro, South Corona, the hillside tracts up toward Eagle Glen and Temescal. Wind funnels through that gap hard enough to carry grit with it, and a good deal of the housing is built on grade.
Two things do the damage. The first is abrasion: wind-driven sand and decomposed granite work on an exposed surface constantly, and on bare or thinly sealed concrete that dulls and wears the finish along the runs that catch the wind. The second is runoff. On a sloped lot, water coming off the hillside crosses the driveway carrying silt, pools at the low edge, and works into the concrete at the joints. A finish here has to be genuinely abrasion resistant, and it has to be detailed properly at the edges where the water leaves.
A coating doesn't replace your concrete. It bonds into the slab you already own. In Corona the topcoat is what earns the money: polyaspartic is considerably harder than the concrete it protects, so the grit wears the coating instead of your slab.
Concrete doesn't have to stay hidden under carpet. Inside, out of the wind and away from the runoff, the slab is straightforward to coat. Once the carpet or tile is up, that slab becomes the finished floor: seamless, quick to sweep, with no grout lines or seams for dirt to settle into.
What makes that worth doing is how the floor is built. Every other option is a separate material laid over your slab. A coating isn't laid on the concrete. It is ground into it, and it cures as one continuous surface with nothing to lift, catch, or come apart at a seam.

Metallic epoxy and solid color are the two finishes we install inside, and we can coat a single room or carry the same floor through several. Corona is our home city, so getting out for a site visit here is easy to arrange.
The first floor that meets wet shoes and grit off the driveway, and in Corona there is a great deal of grit. A coated slab sweeps clean instead of grinding that sand into a mat or a carpet edge.
Water resistant underfoot, so a tipped detergent bottle or a leaking washer is a wipe rather than a stain in the subfloor. Solid color is the usual pick, and it brightens a room that rarely has a window.
One seamless surface with nothing for crumbs, flour, or spills to sit in. Metallic reads as a design floor in an open kitchen, and solid color keeps it bright and quiet in a walk-in pantry.
High traffic, and where flooring transitions tend to look worst. A single coated run takes the joins out altogether, so there is nothing to lift, catch, or wear through down the middle.
Where metallic epoxy earns its keep. Pigment moves through the resin as it cures, so the pattern settles on site and the floor becomes the feature of the room. In a home gym it gives you a hard, level surface that cleans down in minutes.
Converted and below-grade rooms are where moisture rises through the slab, and on a hillside lot that also means water moving through the ground uphill of the room. A moisture barrier primer goes down first wherever the readings call for it.
Three systems cover almost every home we coat. Flake goes outside, metallic goes inside, and solid color works in either when you want the floor to stay quiet. All three are epoxy and polyaspartic systems, all three go down over ground and prepared concrete, and all three carry the same 10-year warranty. One even color, no movement, no pattern. It suits laundry rooms, pantries, mud rooms, and hallways where you want the concrete bright and clean rather than decorative. Low maintenance: sweep and mop, no waxing and no resealing. It is also the most straightforward of the three to install.
Our main floor system, and the one that goes outside. Color flake is broadcast into the wet epoxy, then locked under a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat. The texture gives grip when the surface is wet and hides dust and tire marks between cleans. Pick your blend from the color chart, or we will bring samples out with the estimate.

Our interior finish. Pigment moves through the resin as it cures, so the pattern is settled on site and no two floors finish alike. It suits living rooms, entryways, kitchens, and home gyms. Metallic colors are worth seeing in person before you choose, and we can bring them to the estimate.
A coating is only as good as the slab under it and the topcoat over it. Wind-driven grit tests the top of the system, and hillside runoff tests the edges.
We diamond grind every surface before anything goes down, which opens the concrete so the coating bonds into it rather than sitting on top. On a Corona driveway the grind takes off old sealer along with the polished, worn band where grit has been blowing across for years. Cracks are chased, cut and filled, and the edges where runoff leaves the slab are detailed so water is not working its way underneath. A UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat goes over the system for abrasion resistance.
Skip that work and the floor lets go at the bond line, and on a sloped lot it starts at the low edge where the water stands. Putting it right costs more than doing it properly the first time.

Plan on more than one day for an outdoor floor. We grind and prep first, then coat, then let it cure. On a genuinely windy day we will not coat an exposed driveway at all, because blown grit lands in a wet finish and stays there.
Foot traffic is about 8 hours. Vehicles need longer, in as little as 48 hours on a driveway. Cure times stretch in cold weather, and we will give you the real schedule on the day.
Yes. Once the carpet, tile or vinyl is up, we coat the slab underneath. On a hillside lot we take moisture readings first, because ground water moves differently on a slope.
Not at the rate bare or sealed concrete wears. A polyaspartic topcoat is considerably harder than the slab beneath it, which is the whole point: the grit works on a surface built to take it. On the most exposed runs we can also broadcast a heavier flake, which hides the fine scratching any hard surface eventually picks up.
